25th Anniversary of Zelda

It’s unbelievable that I am even writing this, but “The Legend of Zelda” is officially 25 years old.  After 25 years of entertainment, multiple books, and iterations on Super Nintendo, Nintendo 64 and the Wii, we can now say that this is one of the best video game franchises of all time.  Years ago, I recall people purchasing Game Cube – not for the system itself – but because of the fact that they wanted to play Zelda again.

During the past twenty five years there have been fifteen versions of The Legend of Zelda that have been released on all of Nintendo’s consoles.  The game was created by Shigeru Miyamoto, who is also behind the Mario Brothers series.  Throughout it’s history, The Legend of Zelda has sold more than 59 million copies worldwide across multiple consoles.  In the past we have noted that The Legend of Zelda was the fourth best selling Nintendo game of all time, behind the first three Super Mario Brothers titles.

Feeling nostalgic and want to relive those past experiences?  We’ll luckily you can still pick up a copy:

Top Selling Old Nintendo Games

Mario Brothers CoverEver wonder what the best selling old Nintendo game was?  The Nintendo Entertainment System launched in 1985 across North America, and had a full six years of exclusivity before the Super Nintendo Entertainment System debuted in 1991.  Although the new system launched, most people were not early adopters of this new revolutionary Super Nintendo.  People were still enthralled by the old Nintendo game system, which helped sales continue throughout the 1990′s.

Here is a list of the top selling old Nintendo games:

  1. 40.23 million – Super Mario Brothers
  2. 18 million – Super Mario Brothers 3
  3. 10 million – Super Mario Brothers 2
  4. 6.51 million – The Legend of Zelda
  5. 4.38 million- Zelda II: The Adventure of Link
  6. 4 million – Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
  7. 3.8 million – Dragon Warrior III
  8. 3.1 million- Dragon Warrior IV
  9. 2.46 million – Golf
  10. 2.4 million – Dragon Warrior II
  11. 2.35 million – Baseball
  12. 2.13 million – Mahjong
  13. 2.05 million – Family Stadium
  14. 1.81 million – Tetris
  15. 1.67 – Duck Tales

One thing worth noting is that Konami sales figures were never calculated.  Konami was the maker of popular video game Contra.  Contra was one of the most popular video games of its time, and to this day remains a timeless classic.  Of the numbers that were recorded, it is clear that the original Mario Brothers was the most popular old Nintendo game!

Super Mario Galaxy 2 Review

Graphics

Most people know that if they are looking for the best graphics the Nintendo Wii is not the gaming system for them.  However, for Super Mario Galaxy 2, we have heard that these graphics are some of the best out of any Nintendo Wii game.  Vivid bright colors, that engage the player, rather than the box figures we are all used in the beloved Wii Sports Games.

Controls

While the controls have not totally been revamped from the original Super Mario Galaxy, the programmers and developers have managed to make this game a new unique experience with smooth controls.  The Wiimote has never been so accurately sensitive.  This is a must try for any Nintendo Wii fan out there.

Gameplay

Ok, so the graphics and the controls are cool, how is the actual game?  There are several levels, aka “Galaxies,” that you have the ability to travel across.  Similar to the original game, each galaxy has its own feel with its own attributes.  As you travel from galaxy to galaxy, you have the ability to peer off into the distance and see what the next upcoming challenge may be.  Is it a moon?  Is it a monstrosity?  Only one way to find out, beat the galaxy and keep on moving!

Overall score?

We like to leave that up to the individual players.  Let us know your thoughts and feelings on Super Mario Galaxy 2.  We will continue to post updates and reviews that we think are worthwhile (including Super Mario Galaxy Easter eggs, and tips).  If you want to learn more, go out and buy a copy of Super Mario Galaxy 2, and find out for yourself!
